Big Springs

I headed out straight after work, hoping that it would be cooler since I was going up the canyon. It was indeed cooler, but still pretty dang warm. It was a decent hike. Two miles in to Big Springs and then another 3.5 miles to Big Springs Saddle. I opted not to go up to the saddle. I didn't really get to see Big Springs since it's a big campground and there was some kind of youth camp happening. I would say it was girls camp, but I'm pretty sure I saw at least one boy so I'm just not sure. Anyway, it was lovely.

The trail was a bit dusty, but it was nowhere near as steep as the last two hikes I've done. I'll take dirty ankles over sore hips any day.

Rock Canyon

Another beautiful hike so close to my house! I had hiked this one a long time ago. I went with a couple friends to go rock climbing. I didn't make it that far in since I got a late start, but the rocks were SO cool. Quite obvious where the canyon got it's name.

I think one of my favorite parts of doing these hikes is discovering places I can go in the fall to see the leaves change, basically right in my own backyard.

Slate Canyon

I just finished a two month health challenge instigated by my long time friend Dana. She started it again yesterday and I decided to add to the challenge for me personally and go on a hike once a week. My first hike was yesterday. I just went to the canyon a mile from my house. I didn't go in too far since I was by myself and didn't want to be coming back in the dark. It was still a great workout and SO beautiful! Who knew such beauty was so close to my house!
